A HIDDEN PRESENCE

CONCEPT

Our sense of touch is an essential part of our humanity and can rekindle our bond with our natural environment. Umi No Kehai creates an engaging and tactile fine dining experience that illuminates the hidden presence of the sea.

UMI NO KEHAI

CORE PURPOSE

Whether it is observed as a representation of harmony, balance or rebirth, water is and will always be a source of innate importance and curiosity for those of us who seek for something deeper. Historically, this powerful and fundamental nature has enlightened our sense of creativity in many cultural forms. Japan perfectly embodies a culture that has continuously admired the sea as a source of inspiration for art, poetry, meditation and flavor

SOCIAL RELEVANCE

Currently, people are finding less and less time to reflect in the natural world and allow the deepness of our waters to touch us spiritually, emotionally and physically. I believe that our sense of touch is an essential part of our humanity and can rekindle our bond with our natural environment

TEXTURES OF THE SEA

Oceanic textures were studied and manifested by digitally sculpting and replicating these textures on Rhino. The textures were then fabricated with jesmonite and carved with a cnc machine. These digital textures were later applied onto the surface of the dining set.

STONE FORM INSPIRATION

The overall form of the dining collection is inspired by how water caresses the land, pulses the edge of the tide and how it shapes every rock and pebble it touches on the shore. Essentially, a stone is the utmost hidden presence of water, because it is not something you see, but it is a presence of the sea that you feel.

DINING SET  I  UMI NO KEHAI COLLECTION

The dining set consists of 6 pieces. Half are design to mimics the smooth and round form of a stone that has been eroded by seawater. The other half, have applied oceanic textures that naturally emerge out of the surface and will allow guests to explore and discover hidden tactile moments in each dish.
